Air Force Research Laboratory
AFRL is the Air Force's only organization wholly dedicated to leading the discovery,
development, and integration of warfighting technologies for our air, space and
cyberspace forces. Research in chemical biological defense is conducted primarily
under AFRL's Human Effectiveness Directorate.
Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute
The Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute (AFRRI), a triservice laboratory
chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1961, conducts research in the field of radiobiology
and related matters essential to the operational and medical support of the U.S. Department
of Defense and the military services. The Institute provides services and performs
cooperative research with other federal and civilian agencies and institutions.

||Biotechnology High Performance Computing Software Applications Institute
The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC)
has established the Biotechnology High Performance Computing Software Applications Institute
(BHSAI) to serve as an interdisciplinary, tri-Service resource to develop high performance
computing (HPC) applications to accelerate research and development of militarily relevant
medical products for Force Health Protection. The BHSAI is part of the research arm
of the USAMRMC's Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC).
Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency
DARPA is the central research and development organization for
the DoD. It manages and directs selected basic and applied
research and development projects for DoD, and pursues research
and technology where risk and payoff are both very high and where
success may provide dramatic advances for traditional military
roles and missions.

Edgewood Chemical Biological Center
ECBC provides state-of-the-art science, technology and engineering solutions to
meet the rapidly changing needs of the warfighter. Located in Edgewood, MD,
ECBC offers more than 85 years experience in chemical and biological defense and
houses many facilities capable of handling items contaminated with chemical,
biological or radiological materials. Specific Center offerings include a full array
of material management assistance ranging from risk management to agent
detection, testing and decontamination. By partnering with industry, academia
and the first responder community, ECBC leverages this expertise, furthering its
mission to protect U.S. Armed Forces and U.S. interests.
Food and Drug Administration
Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense
JPEO-CBD is the principal advocate and single point of contact for all chemical,
biological, nuclear and radiological detection, and vaccine and medical diagnostic
acquisition efforts within the scope of the JPEO-CBD charter.

||NIAID Biodefense Research
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National
Institutes of Health, conducts and supports much of the research aimed at developing
new and improved medical tools against potential bioterrorism agents. Since 2001,
NIAID has greatly accelerated its biodefense research program, launching several new
initiatives to catalyze development of vaccines, therapies, and diagnostic tests.
Naval Medical Research Center
NMRC is a premier research organization committed to enhancing, promoting, and
applying basic and applied biomedical research in the areas of infectious diseases,
biological defense, combat casualty care, bone marrow, and diving and environmental

The mission of the Chemical and Biological Defense Program is to provide chemical
and biological defense capabilities in support of the national military strategies.
Soldier Systems Center (Natick)
SSC is a Department of Defense (DoD) installation with the mission to protect and
sustain America's military forces. SSC is responsible for the technology, research,
development, engineering, fielding, and sustainment of our military's food, clothing,
shelters, airdrop systems, and Soldier support items. Comprised of several DoD
partners working together to leverage their expertise and technology, the SSC is
a Warfighter-focused facility that meets the needs of our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen,
Marines, and U.S. Coast Guardsmen.
Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center
Provides information on various means for technology transfer with USAMRMC. The Office of
Research and Technology Applications (ORTA), or Technology Transfer Office, coordinates all
intellectual property licensing on behalf of all USAMRMC's subordinate laboratories from the federal
sector to nonfederal parties. The ORTA office at each subordinate laboratory coordinates
Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs), Material Transfer Agreements
(MTAs), Interagency Agreements (IAAs), Nondisclosure agreements (NDAs), and other
technology transfer transactions.
U.S. Army Medical Materiel Agency
USAMMA's mission is to enhance military
readiness by: providing medical logistics support for the full
spectrum of DoD health care missions worldwide, developing and
implementing innovative logistics concepts and technologies, and
serving as the Army agent for medical materiel and sustainment
U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity
USAMMDA's mission is to protect and preserve the lives of America's
sons and daughters by providing new drugs, vaccines, and medical
devices that enhance readiness, ensure the provision of the highest
quality medical care to DoD, and maximize the survival rate for
medical casualties on the battlefield.
U.S. Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity
USAMRAA is the contracting element of the USAMRMC and provides support to the Command headquarters and its worldwide network of laboratories and medical logistics organizations. USAMRAA also supports the Fort Detrick Garrison and its military tenant activities, Army-wide projects sponsored by the Army Surgeon General, and numerous Congressionally mandated programs.
U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense
USAMRICD's mission is to develop
medical countermeasures to chemical warfare agents and to train
medical personnel in the medical management of chemical casualties.
U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases
USAMRIID conducts research to develop strategies, products, information, procedures,
and training programs for medical defense against biological warfare threats and naturally
occurring infectious diseases that require special containment. USAMRIID, an organization
of USAMRMC, is the lead medical research laboratory for the U.S. Biological Defense
Research Program. The Institute plays a key role in national defense and in infectious
disease research as the largest biocontainment laboratory in the Department of
Defense (DOD) for the study of hazardous diseases.
U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command
USAMRMC is a major subordinate command of the Army Medical Command (MEDCOM),
and it's mission is to project and sustain a healthy and medically protected force, be the
agent of transformation for the future medical force, and enhance the care of service
members and the military family by leveraging medical solutions.
U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine
The U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine is a subordinate laboratory
of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command. The Institute's mission is
to conduct basic and applied research to determine how exposure to extreme heat,
severe cold, high terrestrial altitude, occupational tasks, physical training, deployment
operations, and nutritional factors affect the health and performance of military personnel.
